These 3 Superpowers Step Forward to Save Iran (Image: tv9hindi)
The conflict between Iran and Israel is escalating rapidly. Following the attack on a hospital, Israel has vowed to eliminate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Amid this rising tension, three major world powers have initiated diplomatic efforts to save Iran. Interestingly, these countries are not Iran's usual allies—China, Russia, and Turkey are notably absent from the group.
According to a news agency report citing a German diplomat, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain are planning to hold nuclear talks with their Iranian counterparts in Geneva this coming Friday. These three European nations are working to find a diplomatic solution to the Israel-Iran conflict. As part of their initiative, they will also meet with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.
The German diplomat stated that the foreign ministers of the three European nations will first meet with the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, at Germany’s permanent mission in Geneva. Following that, a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister is scheduled. These talks will take place with the full consent of the United States.
U.S. President Donald Trump has yet to give a clear response regarding America’s role in Israel’s military operations. His silence has fueled concerns that the situation may escalate further. However, Trump said on Wednesday that he has not yet made a final decision on whether to authorize U.S. military strikes against Iran, stating that he prefers to “wait for now.”
It is believed that the three European countries aim to persuade Iran to keep its nuclear program peaceful and limited to civilian use. Israel has declared its intent to destroy Tehran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons, while Iran insists that its nuclear ambitions are not military in nature.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has urged Tehran to reduce tensions and voiced strong support for Israel. He also warned that failure to de-escalate could result in severe consequences. Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful appealed to Iranian leaders to commit to a peaceful resolution and provide concrete assurances about the nuclear program. Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, he reaffirmed Germany’s readiness to support diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
On Monday, German Foreign Minister Wadeful, along with his French and British counterparts and the EU’s foreign policy chief, held a phone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister. During the call, they presented a clear proposal aimed at reducing tensions. Wadeful emphasized that Tehran must take the first step. Sky News Deputy Political Editor Sam Coates has confirmed that British Foreign Minister David Lammy has agreed to participate in the nuclear talks alongside his European counterparts.
